International Circle Way Camp 2009

Circle Way Camp July 20-24, 2009 (Big Camp incl Conference, July 17-24)
Medicine Story, Ellika Linden, Anne & Peter Elmberg

For the 8th year in a row we offer an International Camp based on the Native American tradition.
"Through the Summer Camp we are trying to give ourselves just a little of the experience of living tribally as all our ancestors did, together with new tools to heal ourselves and our relationships which have been damaged by our dominating and isolating culture, and help us learn again how to support and care for and come close to each other. I don’t have all answers for making a more human world, but I am sure that we all do, when we come together and share our best thinking, the wisdom of our great love and compassion and the brilliance of our creativity." / Medicine Story

The Conference, July 17-19
The yearly Sustainability Conference is held before the camp and camp participants are invited at greatly reduced prices. This years theme is " A matter of Lifestyle" and we have invited representatives from various Eco Villages such as Damanhur and Findhorn Read more

The Camp, July 20-24
During the camp people of all ages live together in clans (little groups) based on respect, to get mutual support and appreciation and to experience a possible alternative to the actual situation of society. Talking stick circles, co-counselling, sweat lodge, vision quest, story telling and other contributions to meet us in a hearty way. The daily workshops give us a theoretical and practical background and support us to deal better with our strained emotions and our partner- and friend ships to women, men, children, old people, the environment and other cultures and nations. Singing, dancing and playing are important for us, too. The conscious and respectful co-operation with mother earth and all human beings are also a basic part of our camp life. In the past there weren’t any small families. All kids were the children of the clan or tribe. Due to the isolation of the families all the responsibility rests upon the parents. This problem we want to break a bit at the camp. The children are very important on the camp and can easily join the circles and also teaches us to play!

Camp Activities
The Clan
You’ll be part of a small group (clan) during the camp. You make talking stick circles with them, play together with them and so on. After the camp you’ll know them better than anyone else.
 The Talking-stick Circle
During the talking stick circle you hold the stick, and talk about things that are important to you while your clan listen respectfully, with their whole concentration, without advice, interruptions or comments. When ready you give the stick to the next person.
Co-counselling
A method to give attention consciously. While one person speaks about a topic, the other persons pay full, loving attention to the feelings of the speaker. After an agreed period of time, speaker and listener change their role. When you have some experience as a listener, you can support the speaker by asking questions.
The Sweatlodge Ceremony
A powerful way to clean the body, mind and spirit, to give thanks and to pray.
The Vision Quest
The Vision Quest deals with questions like where is my place in the world? Where can I find it? What is the meaning of my dreams?, Where do my fears come from?, Can I free myself of them and how?
Creativity and Circledances
Singing, dancing and creativity is a natural ingredient of the camp. Circledances (symbolic movements to music inspired by native traditions) are an important part.
